hmmm...just studied this is ap english class. too bad you don't have my teacher-she was awesome! Oh, well. I'd write about the changes in character that this shows for Mr. Darcy. I mean, to actually write an apology after only a day when she just stood him up? That's very different from the Darcy that we are introduced to at the beginning. Have you finished the book? If you have, then you can relate the change he's experiencing now to what happens to him later in the story, you know, how he overcomes his pride and prejudice against her. Then perhaps you could talk about the changes that this brings in Elizabeth's character, basically same ideas as Darcy's, then tie it up with the changes in their overall relationship, and how this letter results in the end of the story. Well, that's it. Hope it helped. Good luck!

It's not so much 'pride', but a rejection of the shame and stigma which is hurled at you by christians and republican-types that I wish for gay people.

Well it is the same thing as cultural or national pride. These are not very logical either but we have them. I mean it is better that both of those even because being gay is natural in the sense that you do not choose to be gay, where as the other two where created at some point in the history and are not naturally occurring.

It helps a lot of people who are coming out to friends and family as gay. It gives them support and a sense of them not being so alone in the world. And they have the right to be proud. Many have had a great struggle in their lives with dealing with ignorant people. When a gay man or woman can be open about themselves being gay it can help them emotionally. It is more of a support system that gives comfort to others who doubt themselves.

Gay folks have been told (forcibly at times) that we're lower than dirt, that we're an abomination, that we're shameful and we're viewed with distaste. We hide from other people and ourselves from an early age because we know that those whom we love would reject us if they knew. In the not so distant past in the US you could go to jail for a long time for being gay. Today, in some countries, you could be killed for being gay (legally executed or by the haters ex-officio). We're carrying this load on our minds, and we need to prove to ourselves and others that we reject those that condemn us and affirm that we are good people. We are people who deserve to be proud of ourselves. We need to prove that we exist and aren't terrible shameful things. The Pride Parade is a statement that we give ourselves and tell the world.... So, why do straight people need a pride parade? Give us some good reasons why straight people need support like I've given above and we might conclude that you have a good reason... otherwise we'll have to conclude that you are trying to have an anti-gay parade.

Gay people and other people belonging to the LGBT community are the minority. Too often, they are looked down upon society and are oppressed. Whether it's being denied to marriage or being murdered for who they love and who they are (which does happen), the fact is that they are not being treated equally as their straight counterparts. Straight people are the majority, and they can show their heterosexuality without being rebuked or disapproval. I see straight couples kissing and holding hands without a second glance from the public. It's different for gay couples doing exactly the same. Gay pride is a day or a week where the members of the LGBT community can be united and not feel alone. By all means, if straight people want to have straight pride, then you can have it. It's just that some people might see that as mocking gay pride.
