Not all post offices accept passport applications! The one next to me does NOT! Nor do all courts. Go here:http://iafdb.travel.state.gov/ punch in your ZIP Code and it will give you a list. Not all take photos or accept personal checks, credit card, etc. Check before you go. Usually you need 2 checks, or money orders. FEES WHEN SUBMITTING PASSPORT APPLICATION IN PERSON (FORM DS-11) The following fees apply when submitting Form DS-11 in person. What Are You Applying For? Application Fee Execution Fee Total Amount You Pay Passport Book (Age 16 & Older) $75.00 Application Fee $25.00 Execution Fee $100.00 Total Amount You PayPassport Book (Under Age 16) $60.00 $25.00 $85.00 Passport Card (Age 16 & Older) $20.00 $25.00 $45.00 Passport Card (Under Age 16) $10.00 $25.00 $35.00 When applying at a Passport Agency, both the Application Fee and the Execution Fee are combined as one payment to the "Department of State." When applying at an Acceptance Facility, pay the Application Fee to the "Department of State" and the Execution Fee to the facility where you are applying. FEES WHEN SUBMITTING PASSPORT APPLICATION BY MAIL (FORM DS-82) The following fees apply when submitting Form DS-82 by mail. What Are You Applying For? (Are You Eligible to Renew?) See specific instructions on how to submit your payment on page 2 of Form DS-82. You May Use Form DS-82 If Your Previous U.S. Passport: Was issued when you were age 16 or older and Was issued in the last 15 years and Is undamaged and can be submitted with your application and Was issued in your current name or you can document your legal name change If you answered no to any of the above statements you are not eligible to use Form DS-82! You must submit Form DS-11 in person and pay the appropriate fees.

You can use the site below to get all passport application information and print out the forms. Both parents must accompany you when you turn in your forms at the local post office and they must sign for you to get a passport. When you go out of the country alone, you must carry a letter of parental permission...see 2nd site below.

I'm not sure, but you can definitely apply at your local Post Office. I think that's definitely the way to go. Why deal with DMV lines when you don't have to?

It can depend on what kind of visa but in most cases no. What happens with the UK embassy is that because they place the visa inside the passport the passport is required at the time you apply. They don't like to play "catch up" with the visa. Most likely the only time you will be able to apply for the visa without having the passport is if you already have an active visa and are applying for Indefinate Leave to Remain. Technically you shouldn't be applying for a visa without a passport. Also embassies are allowed to do checks on the passport. Simple checks they do are if the passport doesn't have enough validity (due to expire soon), damaged or there are other problems with the passport (they can request that you get a new one). General requirements for a Work Permit Visa as per the UK embassy in USA. http://www.britainusa.com/visas/articles...
