Topic: Is psychosis like schizophrenia research
April 19, 2019 / By Darden Question:
Is it worth it to go to a psychologist or a psychiatrist? I keep hearing voices and I can't tell the difference between when someone is silently whispering behind my back or when I am hearing things. The things I hear are almost always negative too, which either gets me angry or puts me down. D=
BTW, the problem is, I'm not sure if it's really psychosis. There's a chance that I have really good hearing, and when someone talks negatively behind my back, of course they'll deny saying anything when I ask them. This is why I'm confused.... even going to the psychiatrist, how will s/he know if I am really hearing stuff or if I am really hearing people talk?

You absolutely need to see a psychiatrist. There are many safe medications that will stop the voices and allow you to live a happy and productive life. Do not listen to anybody who says that you don't need help or that there are natural cures or that this is perfectly normal or medications are bad. This sounds exactly like Schizophrenia and it is a psychosis and it is one of the easiest of all mental illnesses to treat. You can go to the site nami.org which is the site for the National Alliance for the Mentally Ill. On the site you can research the symptoms of Schizophrenia. You can also find their phone number they offer support and information and the best referrals in your area for the help that you need. Please don't ignore this as it doesn't go away on its own. Take care of yourself!
