Is it legal to scan in newspaper articles? Topic: Newspaper articles first personal computer
June 19, 2019 / By Kolleen
Question: I have a bunch of newspaper articles cluttering up my room. Is is legal for my to scan them in and save them on my computer. I would first have to save them on my mom's computer and then to a usb drive to move them to my computer due to the way the printer/scanner is set up. Would this violate the copyright law? Thanks!!

That is fine. You only violate copywrite laws when you distribute the materials without permission of the owner of the rights to the materials. Saving them to your own computer for the purposes of backing the files up is perfectly legal, just like it is perfectly legal to copy a music CD which you own to your own personal computer for personal use.

Think creative, but true. My opinion column was called West of Center...West being my last name. Weird name since I tend to lean just a little right of the line, but my editor liked it so...we went with it. What about: Thinking out loud or Blind Thoughts. Which would describe the outspoken "bitchy" side. Sorry...my thought process is a little rusty since now I usually only write newsletters. :)

Try your local library. Many libraries allow you to enter your library card number into your computer from home to get access to databases that you'd ordinarily have to pay for.
