Will my college degree be valid in the US? (Brazil)?

Will my college degree be valid in the US? (Brazil)? Topic: degree only
June 26, 2019 / By Kerry
Question: I was born in North America, but moved to Brazil when I was fifteen. I'm nearly done with high school here and ready for the exams into college for physical therapy. I would very much like to return to the United States, and I would go this very minute so that I could attend college there, but I'd have to pay for it while in Brazil I don't (public universities are free here). So, the only options would be having a scholarship to study abroad (which I sincerely doubt I could obtain, due to my grades), and moving to the US AFTER I graduate college. However, I'm in doubt whether or not my public college degree for physical therapy would be valid there, and whether I'd be able to work normally, especially considering that I'm an American citizen. Help?

You are correct, the university degree in PT from Brazil is not valid in the US. First, I believe that the PT degree in Brazil is only 3 years. In the US, you are required to complete 4 years of undergraduate work and 3 years of graduate work (or at least you will be for the equivalent of a DPT by the time you finish your degree). A good friend of mine who lives in Minas Gerias who is a PT currently in Brazil would have had to basically repeat about 3-4 years of education that she did not get as part of her degree in Brazil. Granted, she has been a PT for 10+ years now, and maybe the standards in Brazil have changed, but this is what I currently know them to be. What you might want to consider is a degree in general sciences (with emphasis on chemistry, physics, psychology and mathematics) as a degree in Brazil, and then come to the US and complete your graduate work in PT if you want to practice here.

Just like such a lot scientific authorities relocating from the UK to the US you'll most probably have got to cross an accreditation examination. Check with the British Home Office and the intellectual well being licensing companies within the subject in which you desire to reside.

No, it's not the only way, but statistically it's the safer way. You could get a degree in engineering, nursing, computer science, finance, and be making good money in about 5 years. Or you could go to technical college and get a license for plumbing, electrician, or auto repair - these also pay well and you'd be done a lot faster.

Well when looking at it, you'll be making money back from college like an investment. you'll be putting in money at first, but once you graduate, the pay increase from a high school graduate is substantial. Same way with a BS or BA and a Masters. And with you being interested in internet marketing (I'm an IT grad), it really gives you the tools to be better proficient and more professional. Go to college, and your GF will be happy, and you'll be happy with yourself.
