Bloom and bluster

Spring appears to be here in earnest, now the foliage in the park is filling and the tulips, late daffodils and bedding plants are in flower in gardens and window boxes. Some of our early floral visitors have been and gone.

The delicate, drooping snowdrops, crocuses and dwarf irises are the spring’s scouts, retreating once the weather is warm enough to entice the other flowers out and the buds to spring from bark.

To remind ourselves of just how good it is to have had some sun, here are some shots of what the winter brought us :

Those of you who didn’t go home or to visit friends over the festive period, will have been amazed to see snow lying…and lying in the backcourt. even more unusual was the Kelvin freezing over. A family of ducks roosted overnight in the middle of the frozen river beside Westbank Quadrant and fox tracks could be seen over the ordinarily impassable water.
