Does it really matter if the person is white or black? Are they going to give you a defferent treatment because of your skin color?

One would think so. Unions like any idea or even business should be such a good thing that workers clearly want to belong. However, unions are little more now than political organizations and their leadership are political "ward boss" types who are there to bring home the votes, not represent the workers. When John Kerry was running for President (you remember him the $463 million dollar man of the people Dem) I went to see a rally set up by the Mine Workers and Steelworkers. Kerry stood there droning on and on in his failed Shakespearean actor tones and every time he would finish a sentence, the union bosses would clap and whistle (there were three of them) and the 150 plus workers never made a peep. This went on for about 45 minute and when it was over the union toadies clapped furiously and the workers silently walked out of the hall and went home. Clearly the union bosses saw themselves as political organizers, not labor people. The political system has set it up so that workers, in some states, must belong to unions and there are bizarre rules about union elections that allow them to be manipulated, or the vote to have a union at your job site. Unions are noble ideas but have been corrupted by the political system and organized crime (often the same thing) and frequently not only do not represent the needs of the workers but work against them.

It should be an option, definitely. Let's make it completely open. Unions historically are the reason we have the 5 day work week, child labor laws, etc. But now corruption is an issue. Let's be completely open about this. Unions in some cases have become too powerful and are detrimental. Real reform needs to be created that balances the power of unions with employers to maximize fairness, but in such a way that DOES NOT hinder business. I think we can all agree on this.

Im in a union not by choice and our state is contemplating passing right to work and paycheck protection laws. At a union meeting we are gonna get "educated" soon but I did my own research through the census bueruo and the dept of labor. Unions state that right to work states make $5,333 less but this is data from 2000. It is now about $6,200 less. This sounds bad until you look at the cost of living and right to work states are better off. Unemployment is lower in right to work states. Wage growth and population growth is higher in right to work states.. The best item I figured out is that since 2000 right to work states union density increased 4.5% where forced union states union density only increased 1%. I found that the most ironic!!! It is fasinating data but so many people simply puppet others peoples work or the unions numbers but I did all from scratch from government data....

Possibly. My state has no "open shops," but one can still elect not to be in the union. I worked at a company where he didn't have to join (still not an open shop), but I would have had to pay 90% of the union dues AND work on Holidays without being compensated like the union workers.

Leonora Originally Answered: What can disqualify a person from becoming the United States President?
It really does not matter, since the Supreme Court will not hear cases about the subject, nor will they actual make a definitive ruling.
Leonora Originally Answered: What can disqualify a person from becoming the United States President?
With today's politicians, I really don't know. As far as I can see, they let Anyone run now that can speak with more than a "grunt" and does not have a police record, but I heard that having a record was discriminatory and they was gonna remove that part.

You have to be like a senator or something first. And a disqualification. Uh stay away from Monica Lewinski
