Question: So the very fact that they are here illegally is what bothers you? Are you guys forgetting the fact that at the time America had an open-door immigration policy? They took whoever wanted to come. The fact that the legal environment has changed is such an arbitrary argument. The Irish were called lazy welfare cases only looking for a handout. They were also fingered for stealing jobs from Americans and lowering the price of labor. Should the Irish just leave? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anti-Irish_racism#19th_century http://www.kinsella.org/history/histira.htm http://www.spartacus.schoolnet.co.uk/USAEireland.htm and pay close attention to this one: http://www.pitt.edu/~hirtle/uujec/white.html

There is a historical element to the mexican story. Do not forget that some parts of the U.S were once part of Mexico. Do you think some towns in Texas have Spanish names because we love the sound?

The Irish came to America legally and incorporated themselves INTO American culture. They did not insist that Americans learn gaelic etc. ANd the Irish were treated FAR worse than the Mexicans of today. And NO the Irish came legally, so they get to stay. ADD: And actually...like the Mexicans of today, the Irish DID lower the price of labor by working for cheap, since it was the only way they could get hired. (I'm not familiar with the Irish being considered lazy, just sub-human) As has been said by others, it is important to differentiate Mexican from Illegal. Many Illegals come from other countries. Look at Southern Florida. Most of the illegal immigrants there are NOT from Mexico.

First, let me tell you this before my answer, so that you can in no way accuse me of being a RACIST. I work with a Mexican-born hispanic man by the name of Fortunato ("Nato") Vasquez. Though he speaks very little English (He understands but cannot articulate), he is a hard worker beloved by everyone at work, including me. He tells me about his family back in Mexico, and how he plans within the near future to return home to them. Now I think to myself, Nato is a hard worker, and a good citizen from all I know of him. He does things legally, and plans on going back to Mexico once his visa is expired. Now, here's the question. If good people like Nato cannot stay, why should we let illegal alien CRIMINALS who cross our borders illegally stay? Shouldn't we make it easier instead for Nato's family to come and join him LEGALLY? And how is it fail to legal, law-abiding citizens LIKE Nato that people like Barak Obama want to give the criminals a free pass? Ask yourself that. Race has nothing to do with it, even if Mexican was a race, rather than a nationality... It is a matter of whether the people want to integrate themselves into our society and obey the laws, just like every other legal immigrant throughout history... That's the best argument there is... not that "at one time we had an open-door immigration policy," but that regardless of what our policies were, the people of the time followed them. We hardly do ourselves, or them any credit by giving CRIMINALS a free pass. Oh, you might also consider googling "La Raza," as in the group that makes it a point to try to steal Texas from the United States... What state did the Irish want to steal? Get back with me as soon as you find the answer. :P

Nobody cares what race anyone is anymore unless they are f***in' human garbage. Whether or not a particular group of people is allowed to commit felonies without criminal consequence, is a problem for me as a citizen. Either we have laws that need to be followed or we don't. Allowing some to get a pass is wrong. Their country being s***, is not my problem and If they want to come to my country, I say do it legally. If they cannot find a way to do that...they should go somewhere else. Yes, in the past America had an open door policy, but we also used to use black people as slaves...are you saying we should goback to old types of laws? That would be racist.

Everyone alive today has kings and slaves as ancestors somewhere in time. Many naturalized Mexican-Americans are quite upset about the illegal "immigrant" issue--they themselves did the right thing, and now bleeding hearts want to reward criminals with the same rights as those who worked their butts off to get naturalized citizenship.

The Irish for the most part came here through a legal process. And you are confusing the term illegal immigrant with Mexican. Did you maybe forget an illegal immigrant can also come here from countries that hate us and would like to see us all dead? Seems you have.

The Irish came here legally. They wanted to become American citizens. There are many, many Mexicans who come here legally. They become citizens. It is sad that many people in this country mistreated the Irish, and other immigrants. This is something we ought to be ashamed of. You can't compare the honest people who want freedom to the illegals who don't care about freedom as much as they care about a handout.
