Topic: Writing services reviews
June 19, 2019 / By Kathryn Question:
I mailed a letter to my college's student financial aid services to receive additional funding for college due to a family illness that limits our income and our ability to pay for college. My guidance counselor talked to them on the phone and they said it gets reviewed by a board of people to decide if I should get additional funding. I wrote a short intro paragraph including a description/diagnosis of the illness, a paragraph about how it affects our income (it isn't shown in our FAFSA because it comes out of our income as medical bills/supplies) and how I receive a reduced lunch because of it even though we don't meet the low income guidelines, a paragraph of the aid we receive from organizations, a paragraph about why I have to live on campus and why I chose my major because of our situation, and a little ending paragraph. I included a 7 page copy of our medical bills too. How long do you think it will take for them to get back to us? I sent it out last wednesday the 11th. Do you think they will provide me with more money? It is a state college and the tuition with room and board is about 22k a year. They paid for 13k a year which is 100% full need (Tuition- EFC= amount college will pay which for me is 100%). A lot of people are saying I will get the extra help due to the help we receive from outside organizations to help our family just get by. Have you or a family member wrote a letter requesting greater financial need?
They got back to me today. I need to schedule in an appointment over the phone or in an office to discuss last years income and expenses. Is there anything I should definitely emphize. And I can't get a job until I know it is only accessible by me. I had money stolen from me from my parents. That's a different story.
