You're studying psychology, right? I've never seen a single instance where you would draw a different conclusion from looking at the raw data than you would draw from looking at it after it has been massaged through all the statistics. Don't tell anybody, or statistics instructors might have to get a job.

As long as you have a variable that is consistent in both sets of data, you should be okay. Then I think you can use the paired-samples t-test. In SPSS, from the menu, "Analyze" "Compare Means" "paired samples T Test" In the dialog box, choose the variables you want to use and move them over, then click OK.

If you don't know anything about SPSS at all, you should start with the basic learnings. Also, you can take some help from the professional spss research services. They can teach you everything you need. Also,they have a very reasonable service charge.

SPSS is a computer package. It can be used to find summary statistics (mean, median, mode, range, IQR SD, skew etc.) of sets of data. It can be used to compare data sets (correlation etc.) It can be used to identify groups (factor analysis etc.) You can also buy add-ons to do other things. Unless you have about $1700 to spend, you're not going to be buying a copy yourself to play with, (students on a course that uses it will probably get access to a time limited copy while they do their course)... but check out the demo at http://www.spss.com/registration/index.c... also check out https://secure.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/e...

Record the results of your experiment (numerically, according to your manual findings) on an excel sheet and transfer the information to SPSS, once you do that you can make the graphs you want to understand the result of the experiment. In order for me to understand what the dependent and independent variables are, you must describe the exercise itself. What does the experiment comprise? What is the procedure? To remind you, the independent variable is the variable that you have controlled and manipulated during the experiment. The dependent variable is the one that you measured (most likely the scores of the depression level - PSS, SOC, CES-D scores).
