Do you think children should understand what child abuse is?

Do you think children should understand what child abuse is? Topic: Parts of a research poster

Question: Growing up in a small town in Ontario, Canada, I didn't know so much about the world because I was locked up for years. My family is part of a cult; my father is the prophet, my mother is a religious teacher and my brother and I were religious tutors. All children were home schooled and families were banned from leaving our town to see the "devil's world" therefore, we were ignorant about the outside world. We didn't know what was right or what was wrong in terms of abuse. I was raped, molested, physically and emotionally abused while thinking that it was all "normal" because every child, particularly every girl, suffered from these punishments in our community. After a natural disaster in our town, we were forced to move to London, Ontario, Canada. There I was, taking public school classes and learning so much about the world. Due to my new friends and the internet, I then realized that my childhood was much different then others. I didn't know what "abuse" was until I researched it myself; my parents brainwashed me thinking that my life was "normal" so I wonder, what would happen to my life if I didn't moved to the city or researched this topic? Why don't elementary schools teach children their rights? What if a child was being abuse their whole life thinking that it was normal/okay while in most countries, they have laws that are clearly against child abuse? Do you get my point?

Elementary schools do teach what rights are. Granted, a public school doesn't teach the very young grades the details of physical abuse (scary) but they always put themselves forward as some one to talk tonwhen needed. And I always see child help line posters in the schools, so any child old enough to use a phone also has this available to them.

It is true that they have that problem too. As do schools, scout organizations, foster homes and others. None of that excuses any of it from yours or any others. Because somebody else commits a crime doesn't excuse you for the same crime. ANY organization that hides it's criminals from justice has a problem, including, but not limited to the JW organization.

What you are saying is that someone in other religions doing it makes it ok for the Jehovah's Witnesses to do the same Its does not matter who is doing, its still wrong and especially when a group like the JW cover it up and the members are denial.

I don't think they do. They adapt to whatever they live with and consider it normal unless they are taught specifically whats not okay. I think children should have school programs to teach them the difference between a swat on the bottom and the belt,

i think that your son/daughter should know what abuse is as it is a lack of intelligence if ( why is it bad for the lack of intelligence ) well they may get picked on at school. enjoy

Unfortunately it's ultimately up to the judge. MOST of the time it depends on DNA proven paternity, but I've heard of judges who don't care about that and have named the husband the father anyway. Unfair, but true. It's one of the many shortcomings of our judicial system.
