How much should an writer expect to be paid for online content?

How much should an writer expect to be paid for online content? Topic: Child development research article
April 21, 2019 / By Charisma
Question: What would be the flat fee price and the price per word? This would be for an eZine. I would provide the topic and expect the person to research, arrange and conduct interviews, write the article and submit the final product within a given timeframe.

well with that kind of variability it really all depends on the topics you give, for example if you were inclined to give a small minescule topic such as... oh i don't know the post modern effects of televison versus video game child development complexes, it would probably be about 25 cents a word, now if you had gotten into politics on any war topic you would have to go for more like 10 cents a word.

It sounds like you are talking about starting an ezine, rather than writing for one. Since you don't know the answer to your question, it is clear that you don't have first-hand experience with this sort of business. Maybe it would be a good idea for you to be on the writing side of someone else's ezine for a while before starting one of your own. That way you can pick up some experience before committing yourself and anyone else to it. If you do it badly, you'll just be diluting the market and turning people off to ALL ezines, not to mention wasting the time of writers who are looking for a way to establish a name for themselves. I'm not trying to rain on your parade, but you might be trying to start something that you're not ready for. Best wishes

Unless you're a staff or contract writer for a well-known established web publication like yahoo or cnn or something, you shouldn't expect to be paid much at ALL. I write a lot of web content and I also hire people to write for me, and an average article of between 4 and 10 paragraphs goes for between 10 and 20 bucks a piece. Unless you have lots of spare time, it is hardly worth it unless you know a lot about a lot of topics. If you have to take the time to research a topic, it it usually not worth it. I am very efficient at researching and even faster at typing, and it can still take me up to 4 hours to write an article if I have to research it first. 10 or 20 bucks for 4 hours of work is not worth it, unelss you really don't have anything better to do.

I write for academic blogs and the rates vary a lot, it can be pocket change for each person who clicks through to read the article, it could be by word count etc. For general blogging a low rate of a few dollars per 500 words is fine. For blogging in which you expect more in depth research and even innovation you are looking at 20 plus for that same with no real limit (I have charged up to and including £100 per 500 words though that was not blogging)

I'm surprised that people are saying an article shouldn't be more than a few dollars. I think you get what you pay for. A buddy of mine pays $25 per article. You have to figure that a good post will take about half an hour to an hour. Are you requiring the writer to submit an image with the post? Are you expecting to format and edit the post. If you are doing the images and the editing than you can charge less. You also might want to try getting people who have a book, DVD, dojo, online store, martial arts blog or is a public speaker or trainer to write articles/post for free. It helps get their name out there. Let them know they can add a small bio with their post. One last thing. You will be surprised at how badly many people write. They writing skills may be atrocious (punctuation, run-on sentences, bad "voice", inappropriateness, etc.). Do not pay someone for a future post. Insist they submit posts for review before you pay them. When you find a couple of writers that you really like ask them to continue to write for you. However, nobody with any skill or knowledge will write on a regular basis for $5-$10 per post. Good luck. I have been looking for good writers at a reasonable rate for a few months now. Perseverance, right?
