In my college today, there was Representatives from University of Richmond, they said it is great school to study and earn your degrees! good choice!! anyways, my suggestions would be : Why do you wanna study in that school? give speficic reasons, topic would be smth like ' My dream school or why should i be one of the students of the University of Richmond" /smth like that OR you could choose " how do i see myself 10 years from now on" "National debt and how can we survive?" Hunger in africa or asia Computer addiction for teens What should we change about our community to make it better and more convinient for our children? even who do you wanna date from hollywood!! ( haha just kidding ;) smth like these would make a great topic essay! and i wish you the best to get into the school of your dream! someday in next year, hopefully i will be in William and Mary too!

Using a topic with such a generic theme is not specific enough to be called plagiarism. In fact, there's nothing wrong with citing the source of your topic, especially if it's one of those personal experience probes. You might also use a few of these to generate your own "national-grade" topics, such as "I thought I'd *hate* learning that stuff".

This is a very cool subject!! I like it a lot and it seems like it will get your personality across to the admissions officers very well. I linked an article about some college essay dos-and-donts just for your reference. Hope it helps and good luck on your essay and college search!

maybe you could write about why university of richmond is your top choice, or how you will play an important role as a college student. Write about an important even that happened in your life and how it changed you. Or you could write about a hot political issue such as the war in Iraq, global warming, or the economy. If none of these interest you, pick something that pertains to your major.

The UC personal statement prompts are meant for you to discuss your personal achievement (academic or extracurricular). Discussing the death of a friend is ok, but you need to put it in context of how the death impacted YOU (positively or negatively). For example, are you aspired to become a doctor because your friend received poor care? Are you now volunteering at the hospital cancer ward because you want to bring happiness to those who are terminally ill? Did your friend's death triggered a depression that resulted in you getting bad grades during HS? You cannot simply tell the UCs a story about your friend, because UCs are deciding whether YOU should be accepted, not your friend. If you choose to discuss your friend's death, you must describe how the death has made an impact on YOU. For Cross Country, you need to find a unique perspective, YOUR PERSPECTIVE, on the sport. Avoid cliches and your essay won't become a cliche.

It is your job to show that passion in your writing. If that incident really hurt you, then show them how much it hurt and why it hurt. Death and family problems can be a little cliche, but if it's original and tells your story well, then you've got a nice little essay
