Question: I started going to the gym (health club), and my purpose is to have a slimmer waistline. I researched and found out that crunches are not really effective in losing lovehandles. According to the article I read, burning calories is a lot more effective. Does a treadmill really help in burning calories and losing weight? Please answer, and I'll really appreciate it if you will include your reliable source. Thanks a lot! ^^

Yes the treadmill or any kind of cardiovascular workout will help you burn calories. But this has to be complemented with a good diet, or you will go nowhere. Weight loss is simply Calories in vs. Calories out. If you burn more calories then you consume, you will lose weight. So eat less/healthier, run more, and the weight will come off. Also, weight training can definitely help lose your love handles and give you that six pack. You might ask, "My abs are down here, so why do I need to work my legs, chest, shoulders etc?" The more muscle you have, the more calories your body consumes just to keep itself alive. This can be very helpful to you. Right after you lift weights, your metabolism will increase significantly, causing the food you eat post-workout to be used for energy pronto, not stored as fat.

Yeah, I am sure you can lose around 30 pounds. I think the point-based weight loss should be good. My girlfriend used it and she lost more than 25 pounds. You should try to set as a goal a maximum of 3 pounds each week and no more than that, so you don't do any harm to your body and it lets your body slowly adapt to the lose of weight. If you lose 2 pounds each week, in 5 months you could lose up to 40 pounds.

Crunches merely firm some specific muscles but do little to burn calories. You need to do vigorous cardio exercise; and ideally you'll do 50 minutes or so, as many as 5x a week, with some portions of the run being somewhat intense.
