Question: Please someone help me out here. I'm trying to complete homework for an online class and I am stuck on this one word problem. If possible please explain how you get your answer. Staples sells cartons of pens ($8) and rubber bands ($5). Leona ordered a total of 34 cartons for $245. How many cartons of each did Leona order?

Let x equal the number of cartons of pens. Let y = the number of cartons of rubber bands. According to the problem, the total cartons ordered was 34. So x + y = 34 At $8 each, x number of cartons of pens will cost 8x. At $5 each, y number of cartons of rubber bands will cost 5y. According to the problem, the total cost is $245 So 8x + 5y = 245. Since x + y = 34, then (by subtracting x from both sides) y = 34 - x Now you have a way to replace y in the second equation by stating its value in terms of x. That will give you an equation with only one unknown. Substituting "34 - x" in place of y in the second equation, you get 8x + 5 ( 34 - x ) = 245 Clear the parentheses 8x + 170 - 5x = 245 Combine like terms 3x + 170 = 245 Subtract 170 from both sides 3x = 75 Divide both sides by 3 x = 25 You already said (in the very first line) that x = the number of cartons of pens. So there were 25 cartons of pens at $8 each for a total of $200. The rest of the cartons were rubber bands, so there were 9 cartons of rubber bands (34 cartons total - 25 cartons of pens = 9 cartons of rubber bands). 9 cartons of rubber bands at $5 each = $45. Added together, 25 cartons of pens at a cost of $200 plus 9 cartons of rubber bands for $45 comes up to $245, just as the problem states. Answer: 25 cartons of pens and 9 cartons of rubber bands.

Find how much she would make on the 80 K (80Kx.095). Subtract it from 25K. With the 80 K gone she has 120K left. 120K x N=Whatever you got when you subtracted 25K. I'm not going to fully do your homework, but I think you can get it from there.
