Universities? please help? Topic: Best personal statements ucla

Question: I go to one of the top ten public schools in California--however i believe our rankings may have fallen to the 12th this year, but #1 in the county. I am currently a junior, i have a 3.5 weighted right now--all APs or honors(except math) my gpa last year was about the same(3.57), but I'm not sure if the honors classes count-so it may be a 3.1-ish. I have about 200 hours of community service(mostly by volunteering at the hospital) and president of a club for the past 2 years--I also raised a guide dog for the blind, but am not counting that in my community service hours. Have not taken the SATs or ACTs which I know is a prime factor is figuring this out but, what kind of schools am I elligable for? the UCs and Cal States? a decent school, preferably not too large. any suggestions?

Well, I go to UCLA and it's pretty tough to get in. I knew some of my classmates that applied and got rejected with a 4.0! My GPA was 4.1 but, what got me accepted was the extra curriculars I had. You sound like you have done a lot but, that GPA...ehhhhh, thats going to hurt you. For sure, I would say you're accepted into any Cal State with your grades. As for the UC, I wouldnt recomend applying to Berkeley, UCLA or San Diego. try Riverside or Santa Barbara, theyre less competitive. OH! most importantly, kick *** on your personal statement, who know, ifs its really really good, you have a shot at UCLA...Berkeley etc. Good Luck =]]

The %s mean nothing, it's the raw GPA. Anyway, it doesn't matter what other people ONLINE have/had in college because you might be aiming for different schools, and you really don't know if they're just trying to sound smart. :-) Otherwise, a 3.0 is a fairly low GPA for most schools, but it looks like it's improving, and you also have the SAT that can help you out. Colleges look a combination of the SAT and GPA-- especially large public universities that don't care too much about things like activities and the essay. It's numbers.

Yes, they look at the classes you took, your GPA and how you placed in your senior class. If you decide to go to a community college for a year or two before going there, they will look at your grades there. The fact that your GPA is getting higher and not decreasing as you progess through high school says alot too. My GPA was embarrassing in high school because I only wanted to play games and socialize in high school. But now I have a 4.0 in college. You shouldn't have a problem, your GPA is good. I would be concerned if it was like a 2.0 or less.

dude i had a 2.7 gpa and got into a halfway decent school. you'll be fine. just rock out with ur cock out on the SAT (i had a 1975 for my high score) and the interview. make sure u have a few decent extra-curric.'s ...and not everybody gets into harvard or yale. just remember that less than 30% of americans will attend college. ronald reagan went to a no-name school in ohio i believe, and he's one of the best americans in history. good luck!

You're not dumb, a B average is decent. Some colleges really care about it, but most will look at yours and with a few extracurricular and sports will probably accept you. You'll do fine. You'll get into the colleges you want.

It depends on your major...Oberlin is a good school and in a nice place (I live in Cleveland). Also, you might want to consider Case Western Reserve, one of the best research schools out there.

Go to UC Berkeley man, that's where I'm headed. It's one of the best public universities, and with your stats, you can probably get in.
