Question: Topic: Choose 3 colors from the novel, explain what they symbolize and what overall theme is suggested by the use of these colors I choose : Green(Gatsby's ambition and world), White(Daisy and Tom), Grey(Valley of Ashes) And here's my introduction: The world of art has transform color into a common belief; many believe that red had represented love, while blue symbolize sorrow and yellow meant as friendship. However, each person does not the same color significance; thus, this is no exception for Scott Fitzgerald novel; The Great Gatsby. A novel that was written based upon his life; Fitzgerald portrayed Gatsby as a young man who rose from poverty to riches in order to gain attention from their long lost lover. Throughout the novel, Fitzgerald uses many colors which symbolizes the flamboyant and immoral society of the 20s: Grey, the color of Valley of Ashes which portrayed the truculent life of the Wilsons, White as the irresponsible and coldness of Daisy and Tom, and finally, Green, the color that represents Gatsby’s world and ambition. WHAT DO YOU THINK? DOES IT NEED ANY IMPROVEMENT? IS IT TOO SHORT? Thanks to all that answered to my question. My essay is due 03/13/09 SO PLEASE DO HELP !! and again, THANK YOU !!

Over time, colors come to be associated with ideas or emotional states. For example, blue often symbolizes sadness, while white may represent purity. While color symbolism may vary from person to person, or from culture to culture, it can be used effectively as an expressive tool in works of art such as F. Scott Fitzgerald's The Great Gatsby. In his portrayal of Gatsby as a young man rising from poverty to wealth, striving for the attention of the woman he loves, Fitzgerald uses color to symbolize the flamboyant and immoral society of the '20s. For example, he uses gray to represent the Valley of Ashes, which portrays the truculent life of the Wilsons. He uses white to symbolize the irresponsibility and coldness of Daisy and Tom, and he uses green to represent Gatsby’s ambition and worldliness.

This is an interesting idea for a thesis. In The Great Gatsby, F. Scott Fitzgerald creates a society run by deception. Statements that appear to be straightforward often have twisted and hidden meanings behind them. The need for success -- whether financial or romantic -- is the major motivational factor in the manipulation of words. Characters tirelessly thirsting for success, such as Jay Gatsby, go so far as to recreate their whole pasts in order to gain wealth and respect. Due to their lack of truthfulness, conversations mean nothing; they are merely empty imitations of good manners. Almost every action performed, and nearly every sentence spoken, is done solely for the sake of appearances. Lies are used to advance in life, and words are twisted to manipulate and deceive others.

VERY GOOD! ok i noticed 3 mistakes first no comma after conversations mean nothing because you are not changing the subject next no comma after performed in almost every action performed and no comma after life in lies are used to advance in life because you arent changing the subject For Ex: I believe that a dog would make a great pet because they are very affectionate creatures and they love to run. No comma because you arent changing the subject there would be a comma if you said I believe that a dog would make a great pet because they are very affectionate creatures, and i love having dogs as pets. Comma is added because at first your talking about why pets are great pets but then you change the subject to yourself my saying that you love having dogs as pets hope i helped:)

These quotes from the book might help: There was a machine in the kitchen which could extract the juice of two hundred oranges in half an hour if a little button was pressed two hundred times by a butler's thumb. -- Chapter III "She's got an indiscreet voice," I remarked. "It’s full of--" I hesitated. "Her voice is full of money," he said suddenly. That was it. I'd never understood before. It was full of money--that was the inexhaustible charm that rose and fell in it, the jingle of it, the cymbals' song of it. . . . High in a white palace the king's daughter, the golden girl. . . . -- Chapter VII

I do not know if this may support you, however I constantly adored this quote approximately Gatsby's smile: "One of the ones infrequent smiles with a high-quality of everlasting reassurance in it, that you could come throughout 4 or 5 instances in existence. It confronted-or gave the impression to face-the complete outside global for an immediate, after which focused on you with an impossible to resist prejudice to your desire. It understood you as you could love to feel in your self and confident you that it had accurately the impact of you that, at your first-class, you was hoping to carry." (fifty two-fifty three) Maybe you might use this to exhibit that Nick is familiar with Gatsby or has essentially the most constructive and forgiving opinion closer to him...?

Hello... Great Gatsby Thesis Thesis: The pursuit of the American Dream is a dominant theme throughout The Great Gatsby, which is carried out in various ways by F. Scott Fitzgerald, how the author represents this theme through his characters and their actions is one small aspect of it. Fitzgerald's dominant theme in The Great Gatsby focuses on the corruption of the American Dream. By analyzing high society during the1920s through the eyes of narrator Nick Carraway, the author reveals that the American Dream has transformed from a pure ideal of security into a convoluted scheme of materialistic power. In support of this message, Fitzgerald highlights the original aspects as well as the new aspects of the American Dream in his tragic story to illustrate that a once impervious dream is now lost forever to the American people. The foundation qualities of the American Dream depicted in The Great Gatsby are perseverance and hope. The most glorified of these characteristics is that of success against is that...
