Can you fire someone over the phone?

Can you fire someone over the phone? Topic: How to write an email to your boss for a meeting
July 19, 2019 / By Arielle
Question: I was told to go home by my boss while in the office from his house for using the internet too much. He did not say if I was fired or suspended and I did not want to get involved in it right there. I wrote an email requesting we meet to discuss the situation as I had no prior warnings or faults with my work nor did I think I was using the internet inappropiatly or excessivly. I know business is slow though and that this was an excuse. The following day I called him as he emailed me requesting and he told me I should look for a new job that we where through. My question is, in CONNECTICUT, can an employeer legally fire you over the phone? And how much time are they allowed to get you your final paycheck? Thanks!!!!

If you are an employee "at will" and have no contractual agreement to the terms of you employment, sadly you can be fired anyway and for anything. As for you paycheck, try to get the money as soon as possible. If you boss refuses to give it to you or delays it, seek litigation.

Yes, an employer can by law fire an employee through any method and notify the employee by any method.

come on...shake it off, walk it out.... What do you really expect... A "NO, he must take you out to dinner in Paris France to notify you of your termination legally" response?

I am an Artillery Officer..who has led 13Fs. 13F..along with Mortars..is the ABSOLUTE physically HARDEST job in the Army..period. Most 13F kids get some sort of injury their first tour and have to re-class...was a major issue. Yes..you will be in an Infantry unit (or Armor in some cases)..24/7..with all of the joys that entails. You will carry on average about 80-120 pounds (an average rifleman carries about 60)..consisting mostly of radios, batteries and associated fire support equipment...and batteries...did I mention batteries? But the Infantry does love their 13Fs...bottom line...as a 13F..you are basically just a grunt with a little additional training and skills in calling in fire support.
