I recently ran into a professor from 10 yrs ago. He was thinking about quitting because the students apathy was overwhelming. I mentioned that he was one of the most inspirational teachers I had and suggested to any future college students that his ability to make a class interesting was 'the way' to succeed in any course. He was flattered and motivated to continue teaching and I hope that you can find something honest to say to your professor about what an impact he/she has had for your. Write it down and send it, and I guarantee you will give a gift that lasts forever. P.S. Restaurant gift cards are nice too.

AS a few others have mentioned, I'd suggest a simple yet thoughtful thank you letter. Teachers aren't known for doing things for gifts and such, but nothing beats an eloquent thank you.

Write the note. Forget the chocolate. That makes it seem like a bribe. You don't have to have cards. Just a note on nice paper in an envelope will do.

A sincere thank you card is enough, and let her know the results of whatever it is you are applying for that needed her recommendation. Teachers take pride when their students do well.

How about a letter opener? (Sometimes called a paper knife) Have just looked on the internet and there are loads to choose from, and in the right price range.

You could easily be dismissed from the school for academic dishonesty. When you sign your application you attest that everything submitted is true. If you wrote a recommendation from someone else and you signed it this is forgery and you could be held liable by the person who you forged the letter from in addition to the dishonesty. Now if the person told you to write the letter and to sign it..you might have an out.

They might consider it to be a breach of ethics and rescind your acceptance. But there are no legal problems, unless you consider forgery. Are you able to speak to the person whose name you used and explain the situation? Hopefully you didn't use a teacher or some school official. Although you probably won't get "caught" consider this a lesson and work harder scheduling you time. Good luck and hope you do well in college.
