Being a witch is like being anyone else.We aren't born differently than others,we don't have to fight demons on a daily basis or cook children in our stoves. We go to work/school, pay bills, etc.
If you haven't gotten the picture by now, I am a practicing witch, which would make witches real.
Witches are people who choose to study, learn, and practice the skill of witchcraft. You don't have to be born into it or anything.
Witchcraft is a practice mainly using the elements and natural tools (i.e. herbs, minerals, etc.) to influence the energies around you and act out your will through magic. Magic is energy and it all depends on your intent when casting a spell. There is no good or bad magic.energy doesn't have a conscience, its what you do with it. However there are certain aspects that have to be observed when using magic, for instance the threefold law, where whatever you send out comes back at you 3 times and how you have to be specific when doing a spell.
Witchcraft is mainly used in pagan religions like Wicca; however you don't have to be Wiccan or even pagan to perform it.You don't have to change your religion because you are a witch, although some religions don't think you should.
Becoming a witch takes many years of dedication and work. You want to know what your doing and how to do it before doing anything, because if you do some thing wrong,a person or yourself could get hurt.
The only people I have ever cast spells on were myself and my brother at his request.Spells are perosnal, they are like prayer, essentially what you are tryign to do with them is get your wish, which is perosnal, so I am not going to tell you what the spells are I have cast.

Most of us live our beliefs, Unlike so many of the "Sunday Christans" I am acquainted with. We are real, some of us are born with some abilities, many are learned. For example, I was born an empath with the ability to see spirits and communicate with animals. Hereditary, my mother was able to do this as well. I have learned may way of divination, lot of practice. Yes I have cast spells on others, and like my fellow witches, the spells have been for protection, healing and fertility. How can I be a witch? Same as asking how can you be a Christain. We are no different than anyone else. We go to the same grocery stores, the same Malls, the same doctors, our kids go to the same schools, etc. If you met one od us on the street you would not know it.

I imagine it feels like being any other regular person who practices any other set of skills that not everyone else does. How does it feel to be an electrician? A plumber? A builder? Many people have different talents and skills in life.
I am quite real, yes.
I live my life. Work at my job, clean my house, walk my dog, cook my meals, spend time with my family and friends, etc. Being a witch is incorporated into my daily lifestyle in how I view/treat the natural world and how I treat others around me.
I only cast spells when there is a need to do so. I only cast ethical spells on other people at their request or with their permission.
Most of my spells for others have been some forms of protection and healing spells.

"What's it like?"
It's freeing. I'm able to do what I want, believe what I want without someone hounding me about doing this right and that wrong.
"How can you be a witch?"
It's a conscious choice. It started with Wicca. I one day looked up information on it, and continued my search. It wasn't until a few years later, that I took on the title of Witch (as Wicca was not the path for me), and have never looked back. I'm a witch so therefore yes, they are real.
"What do they do?"
Witches do many things. None of which is portrayed as Hollywood type witches.
Have you ever cast a spell...?"
Yes, but I prefer not to speak about them. It's like asking anyone of any other religion, what they pray about and if they're prayers were answered. It's not appropriate.

When you're a witch, you're basically just another person that knows how to cast spells. It's part of my religion and it is a part of me and my life that I live. We are very real and it does work, despite what some idiots (such as Mitch) think.
You don't just read a couple of books and then POOF! you're a witch. It is a craft that has to be honed and perfected through work and tireless effort. You have to have a knowledge base and through trial and error you learn what you're good at and what you aren't.
Otherwise, we're just normal, regular people.

My advice is don't.
OK, first, read about the lives of famous occultists:
Then decide if it's worth persuing. If you want to wind up broke and forgotten, go for it!
If there is any truth to the old saying "Those who can, do. Those who can't, teach.", that truth is found in the occult, and Wicca in particular. Silver Ravenwolf has written close to a dozen books on the subject of "The Craft", and claims she has been studying it since about 1969, which is almost as long as I’ve been alive. She has written a book on how to cast money spells, and includes a chapter on how to do so in her Teen Witch book. But the thing is, she doesn't particularly sound all that prosperous herself. Ravenwolf writes,
" For years I couldn't afford to go to a hair stylist (still can't, it's shop and chop for me). I got pretty good at stying my own hair from looking at magazine pictures" [SOURCE: Teen Witch, Llewellyn Publications, 2003 edition, page 145]
OK, she so rich she can't go to the hairdresser. Hey, get me a copy of that Prosperity Spell book!
Silver Ravenwolf seems to have inadvertently discovered that Wicca makes things worse, but won't ever admit it as such.
In Teen Witch she says
"A lot of people tell me how bad their lives have gotten after casting a spell and tell me they won't do Witchcraft anymore. I tell them their lives would have been much worse for not having cast the spell".
Gee Silver, you would think a lot of people would be saying things like "Hey, Silver Ravenwolf, my life has improved tremendously with Wicca!" if Wicca is as great as they claim. Instead it makes lives much worse, and even Silver Ravenwolf admits she hears this a lot!!!
Why? Because sometimes, things are just as you think they are. Most average people will tell you the occult deals with black magic and demons, and demons are evil beings who wish us harm. This is how it is my friend. The occult is evil, and brings bad happenings into a person's life, and Wicca is an occult religion. When you stop trying to rationalize it with inaccurate data and just use common sense you will realize this. Some occultists are of above average intelligence, and I think part of the problem is they have book smarts but not common sense. There are two forces at work in this universe: the counterfeit and the genuine. Wicca’s source of power is not the genuine. There’s just simply no way Wicca (and thus the copycat Neopagan religions) can be created from the black magic writings of “The Great Beast 666", the bizarre sexual practices of Gardner, the spiritual “guidance” of the Watchers (fallen angels) and still be a source of good!
Not all Wiccans are harmless either:
None of the people who have answered your question can make it work either, Don't delude yourself. It's an incredible waste of time and money, and it's spiritual poison.
