I want to decorate some pillow cases.what are the best tools? Topic: Pillowcase standard
July 17, 2019 / By Catrina
Question: Hi! I was planning to decorate some pillow cases, but I don't know what I can use to decorate it with. I thinking of using basic cotton fabric pillow cases. I was planning to use fabric paint..but would fabric paint be soft to the touch? I don't want my face to get irritated when I am laying on it. What is the best and fastest tool to use so that it looks nice, and also feels soft to sleep on. Thank you so much and Happy Holidays!

Traditionally pillowcases have been decorated only on the hem - on one side. There are some nice fabric paints these days - Donna Dewberry has a line - that remain soft all the time and stand up to laundering for a while. If you want to decorate more of the case, I would suggest sticking to the corners and outside edges - you don't know how you will react to the decorative materials against your skin. Alternatives are more traditional as well --- embroidery, cross stitch - weaving ribbons through eyelets that you create, etc. If you are going to use cotton - look for brushed cotton - and / or high thread counts. Don't discount cotton blends - but I would not suggest that you have too high a linen content if you go in that direction because linen wrinkles horrifically nad you don't want to spend all your time at the ironing board. Poly//cotton blends can be very nice, and fairly soft. Be sure to use a new, sharp embroidery needle if you go that direction. Dull needles are very frustrating. Regardless of the decorative materials, you may prefer working with a hoop to keep the case taught while working on it. If you have a design in mind, one of the washable invisible marking pens will allow you to duplicate your work to make matching cases. Unless you are on a twin bed, most folks have at least 2 working pillows on the bed. The only real difference between a standard pillow and queen and king cases is the length. Perhaps you may want to think of making decorative pillow shams instead of a pillow case. Most are shaped more like an envelope than an open ended case. There is traditionally a sewn border on all four edges and the opening is in the back in the center, with a small overlap to keep the pillow tucked inside the sham. Shams are not laundered as often as a case because you do not sleep on a sham but keep the daily use pillow inside using a case that can be more readily laundered. Definately way too much stuff in the washing machine. For the stuffed animals, you should put them in pillow cases and tie the pillow case closed. Wash them that way in the washer without anything else on a delicate cycle. You can put them in the dryer on a low heat setting for a short time or just let them air dry (out of the pillow case for air drying). That's how my mom always washed my stuffed animals, and they always stayed in good shape.

If you've had it that long (stuffed animal) I'd hand wash it. It's probably a little thread bare and could be torn apart in the washing machine.

You threw that all in one machine at the same time? That is at least 3 loads to wash properly. You can vaccum your mattress with the upholstry attachment. Unless you've been ill, that should be sufficient.

Most colours will paintings with blue, relying in your different decorations (wall hangings, lamps, tables, and so on.). Blue and orange are complimentary colours, however exclusive sun shades of purple, inexperienced, yellow, or even neutrals like brown, black, or gray will coordinate. I suppose you will have to pass with whichever colours you experience or some thing you suppose appears the great - Its all approximately individual kind!

Sounds like a plan. Try to get some of the waterproof pillow protectors and sew them closed onto the pillows first though. My dog had a pillow just in a pillowcase and it lasted about a month before it started smelling doggy and the pillow had to be replaced.

Yep perfectly fine i do it :) Can i suggest using 2 pillow cases though, BUT put 1 on from 1 end of the pillow & then 1 on from the other end. I found using just the 1 pillow case any muck/wetness still soaked through to the pillow but using 2 helped keep the pillow clean & smelling ok. x
