There was recently a pbs special about an old Jewish woman who had been a little girl in Poland when the Holocaust wiped out her entie fmaily except for her little sister and herself. She did a giant embroidery showing in pictures not words how her family had been loving and peaceful and then the nazi soldiers came... and it created a visual impact. Instead of huge numbers difficult to imagine, such as "millions" of victims, it brought it down to the image of something small and therefore comprehensible: a real family who were murdered.
