Can my school kick me out?
i was kicked out of my boarding school because they said "i wasn't right for the community" and because i was"depressed". the school basically kicked me out because my psychiatrist told them i was heavily depressed. can a preparatory boarding high school do this to me? ps- they said i wasn't right for the community because i would complain about the school with my friends and they would ease drop and then use my conversations against me.
i also got the feeling the school didnt like me because i would bad mouth them with my friends. but that shouldnt be any of their concern because thats my buisness.
yes, but they have clear policies and regulations for how they kick out students that are written in their community handbook! can they go against these rules??
SO WHAT YOU PEOPLE ARE SAYING IS I DON'T HAVE A RIGHT TO FREE SPEECH?????!!!!!!!!!
AND "THE OTHER STUDENTS" AS YOU SAY ARE MY FRIENDS.........SO I THINK I HAVE THE RIGHT TO CRITICIZE ANY SCHOOL AS A WISH IN MY OWN PRIVACY
THE SCHOOL ALSO kicked me out for not taking medication. my parents told them that they don't want me taking it and they decided to kick me out at the end. i also was never prescribed this medication in the first place.
this school is not just any random private school. it is accredited by the association of independent schools and is a friends school. the school charges close to 50,000 a year. im pretty sure these schools are supposed to have some type of standard and can't just do whatever the hell they want.
i was a good student and i followed the rules. to kick me out because i was depressed(cnt help tht) and they over heard me complain about the school is absurd.

Yes they can. Those rules merely state a few things that you must not do or else be kicked out for sure. That does not mean that you can't be kicked out for any other reason.

Only the congress is prohibited by the constitution to do anything that impedes free speech.
Technically you do have free speech. You were not imprisoned or fined for your statements. But free speech does not mean "speech without consequences". People who disagree with your statements are free to refuse further cooperation with you. That private school is such a legal person that is free to terminate its business relationship (i.e. schooling you) with you within the boundaries defined in the contract that you have with them if you say or do stuff that they don't like.
Technically, if they overdo this, then the school eventually will gain a bad reputation and may go out of business. But they are free to choose this course of action.
Wait...your psychatrist told them that about your medical condition? THAT may be something you can sue about, unless you or your legal guardian (if you have one) signed a disclosure agreement about your medical condition.

I was in kind of the same situation as you. When I was in high school I was very depressed and had lots of problems. I missed so much school that they threatened to take legal action.
The first thing you should try is to talk to your school counselor. They have an obligation to help you, and to help the school accommodate to your needs. It may be embarrassing, but trust me, this is in your best interest. Let them know about your situation and ask what you can do to help yourself, and what they can do to help you.
If they fail to help you, then you may have to end up going to a different school. I would give it a try, definitely..it's like having a second chance. I never got that.
If all else fails, and this is your FINAL RESORT, you can legally drop out of high school once you're 16 years old. You can go to your local community college and get your General Education Diploma, which is an equivalency diploma that allows you to go to college and to get certain jobs. From there you can take classes at your local college and transfer to a university later on if you want, or you can take time to deal with your depression before you continue your education.
As for the suicidal thoughts, please don't act on them. Listen to what the person above me said. It may be a "quick fix" for you, but your death will terrorize your family and community.
A private school can kick out or refuse to admit any student they want for any reason, including for criticizing the school. If you hate the place so much I'm not sure why you are so upset about being kicked out??
I have absolutely no idea what you think your right to free speech has to do with this issue, as the 1st Amendment right to free speech only protects you from Government censorship or penalty for your speech. This private school is not the government.

Yeah, you have free speech. You can say anything you want and you will take the consequences for it. Think about it this way. You have a party at your house. Everything is going great and everybody is having a good time. Some 'guests' drop by and badmouth you, your other guests, your house and tell you your whole paarty sucks. Would you kick them out and tell them to go home? I certainly would. WHAT? THEY HAVE NO RIGHT TO FREE SPEECH? They do, but somewhere else.

Would you like to have a student at your school who is clearly affecting the morale of the other students with his negative thoughts and feelings? I don't think you would and I'm sure the parents of the other students would have plenty to say as well.

They haven't done anything illegal, its s private school. Maybe if you had a better attitude, they wouldn't be kicking you out.
