Events often have unforseen consequences that ripple on.

In response to the unrest in the park following a facebook invite, Police units made their way to assist colleagues. Sadly, one of the Police vans collided with a taxi-driver, who died in hospital on Wednesday.

An investigation will be launched into the events surrounding the incident. Our thoughts are with the driver’s family.

Keep your close doors closed and report any suspicious behaviour to the Police.

Car tyres were slashed on Otago St and a man tried to force his way into a home on Westbank Quadrant, as a family were entering the flat door with their baby. He was only thwarted by a quick reaction and a shove to the chest down the stairs. (The events are thought to be unrelated.)

Serious criminal activity is rare in GOW, so keep safe, be watchful and enjoy our little patch.

A flat in 103 Otago street was broken into over the weekend, so as usual, be vigilant. If you see any odd or suspicious behaviour, don’t keep it to yourself :

  • CALL the Police : 0141 532 3500
  • TELL your neighbours

Where there are security doors, keep them closed. If a door is broken, contact your factor/landlord to let them know a repair is needed.

Close the backcourt gates after yourself and lock your close doors after putting out refuse.

DON’T just assume that “someone else will do it” ; whether calling the Police or factors. More calls just means speedier action.

It could be your laptop, TV or personal possessions next, please let’s do all we can to prevent any further break-ins or malicious fires in GOW.

This meeting was to forge good communication between GOW and the Community Police Team to ensure. There are 12 in team which covers Hillhead Ward although wih shift patterns this will mean 4 officers available for the area at any one time. It will take some time before the new system becomes established but it will mean a greater Community Poklice presence for this area.

Hillhead Community Council visited the Police Station at Stuart Street to meet new Superintendent Anne McGuire to discuss the new Community Policing arrangements. The Community Policing Team will have more resources and aims to develop better communication with the community. GOW plans to include more information and named contacts for our residents.

GOW was represented at the BIG Lottery consultation event held in At Andrews in the Square as part of a nation-wide review o the funding strategy for the Lottery.
